Just a Few Days until the Epic Launch

It’s just a few days until we launch our massive travel adventure and the tension around the house is palpable (Not really).
We’ve been working on the RV, the house, making plans, visiting the doctors, and getting
organized since I was laid off in March.  Now it’s time to take the RV on a massive road trip.

We are excited to get out on the road and see parts of this country we’ve never seen before.

Will we last 2 weeks or 6 months on the road? Friends are wondering how we’ll survive living in such a tiny space together for so long…
Well, keep an eye on the Marital Stress Meter in the sidebar to see how we do  😉
Who knows what will happen, we’re just going to make-like-a-tree and get out of town.

Look carefully, someone is driving the RV… It’s Tina!
Here’s the detailed plan:
We leave next week, Wednesday or Thursday (unless we decide not to).
Day 1:  Drive to OKC – spend the night in a Walmart parking lot or rest stop outside of town.
Day 2:  Start driving, figure out where to go next.

Here’s the high level plan:
Visit lots of the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho,
west coast, and maybe a bit of Canada (Calgary, Banff).
We’ll stay longer in places we like and drive right through places we don’t like.
We’ll try to do as much boondocking (dry camping – away from “RV Parks”) as possible.
We’ll try to visit lots of National/State Parks, free BLM land and Harvest Hosts.

We’ll try to stay in beautiful places…  Hi Tina!
Drive a few days, stay a few days…
That’s the plan.   We’re even bringing the lazy dog.

What up, pops? I’m kinda busy right now.
I wonder how it will all work out?
Keep an eye on the blog if you are interested in our trip.

Well, enough of this palavering… I need to get back out to the garage and clean it up!
See you all around somewhere…

  1. Do you have one of those groovy color in maps of the USA pasted on the side of the RV. The kind you fill in with each new state. Love those things.

    1. Ed, he just put the phone back in his pocket. 😉 Congratulations – almost on the way! Wish you all the best and have a blessed trip. Can’t wait to see the posts – I can almost smell the bacon now!

  2. If you are going to drive right through the places you don’t like, how do you know you don’t like them ? Confused !

    1. Thanks Pete,
      good to hear from you.
I hope the adventure works out well too… 🙂

  3. This may be a repost, but who cares, I’m old.
Not to put too much pressure on you guys, but you are now my virtural retirement.
    Yes, it’s a heavy responsibility.

  4. Not to add too much pressure, but you are now my virtual retirement. Although the real thing may be coming up sooner than I think.

  7. All the best on this and will meet you on the road one day 😉
Lette and I have discussed doing this very thing! My son lives in Sidney, Montana. If you are passing through there he would welcome you and family with open arms (great guy, he’s just that kind of guy)

    1. Thanks Trevor.
Good to hear from you. We may be in
that area and will probably need money by then too 🙂

      cheers–
