Estes Park

We pulled in to Estes Park on Aug 9th and it was crowded.  We stopped at the visitors center for general info then headed to our RV park.  We had already purchased our Annual Park Access Pass back at craters of the moon so we headed straight into RMNP (Rocky Mountain National Park) for a quick drive around.

The lady at the info center recommended a drive we had not done before, probably because it has mostly been closed for the last few years.  Old Fall River Road is a dirt road from the Lawn Lake Trailhead up to the Alpine Visitors Center at 12,000 feet!   The road runs along the Fall River.

A nice, windy drive for the jeep, but 4WD not needed.  We did see a big Elk in the trees.  That was our biggest excitement.

I think it’s even more awesome once you get above the trees, though.  I love high altitude!

It was a beautiful view from the Alpine Visitors Center.  Still snow on the ground up there…

Monday we dropped the dog off at a kennel because that worked out so well the last time, and drove back up to Alpine Visitors Center.  This time we ate lunch AND scrambled up the 276 steps to the very peak of the mountain at the visitors center!  BAM!

There’s Tina by the red arrow – glad that red arrow was there…

Yes, we made it to 12,005 ft!

Down was easy!

I was feelin’ good!

I felt better on the way down than on the way up though…  😉

And here’s just a random picture of me in the hood.

Ta-ta for now…
