From Park City, UT to Estes Park, CO.
OK, I’m going to try and get caught up on blog posts. As mentioned in the previous note, blogging just has not been convenient for the last three weeks. I fixed the sidebar map showing our current location, too. My apologies to Phil (you know who you are) for now going back in time and postng events out of chronological order. I know how that disturbs you!
Park City, UT was great, but our plans fizzled out after the dog broke her toe and the weather started turning miserable. The forecast called for rain and damaging winds over the weekend so we decided to bail out of Park City. Too bad because we had VIP invites from a friend at Sotheby’s to the “Tour of Utah” bike race, 7th leg, which started and ended on Main Street in Park City right below the Sotheby’s office (Yeah, I’ve got connections!).
We’d already been trapped by leg 5 of the race for 45 minutes the day the dog broke her toe. We were on our way to get her from the kennel and take her to the vet when we got stuck in a mile of traffic on highway 189 South almost to Heber City because the cyclists were crossing the highway ahead of us.
So instead of waiting to see if high winds could blow over our RV we headed to Wyoming.
First we went to Laramie WY. There were some cool painted horses around town.
We didn’t find much to do, though (I thought it would be near Fort Laramie, but no – we’ll have to swing by Fort Laramie later) so we said, “Let’s just go to Estes Park, we’ve always enjoyed our visits to the RMNP (Rocky Mountain National Park).” So that’s what we did, by way of Fort Collins and Loveland – some very nice Walmart camping there (not!).
We’ve been to Estes Park a few times in the past, but always in the off season. This time the city was in full swing and packed. We arrived Aug 6th and the fun began…
